To carry out research and prepare a background paper on the industrial sector, with emphasis on the small and medium-sized subsector,
that would assist in the design of a line of credit for the Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa.
Carried out an economic assessment of the history and development requirements of the SME sector in the Republic of South Africa.
This research identified trends that worked against certain categories of business in South Africa, and worked for others that should be supported
because of the natural advantages they had in the market. Presentations were made of the findings and recommendations to AfDB staff.
